Website Speed Optimisation

Websites that load in under a second

Website speed optimization that audits, fixes and monitors Core Web Vitals, so pages appear instantly and stay fast after launch.

In depth

Website speed optimization that lasts

Visitors notice slow pages long before they notice design. Website speed optimization removes the delays between a click and usable content, improving engagement, conversion and the page experience signals search engines measure. Our approach is metric-driven: measure real users, fix the largest bottlenecks first and keep the gains with automated checks.

Core Web Vitals optimization, metric by metric

Google’s Core Web Vitals measure three aspects of experience. Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) tracks how quickly the main content appears; good is 2.5 seconds or less. Interaction to Next Paint (INP) measures how quickly the page responds to taps and clicks; good is 200 milliseconds or less. Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) measures visual stability; good is 0.1 or less. We combine field data from real visitors with lab audits to find which pages and devices fail each threshold, and why.

How to improve LCP

LCP is usually held back by four things: oversized images, slow server responses, render-blocking resources and late-discovered content. We compress hero images to AVIF or WebP, size them for each device and preload the largest element. Server response time drops when HTML is cached on an edge network close to visitors. Critical CSS is inlined, non-essential JavaScript is deferred, and fonts are preloaded with sensible fallbacks. Together these changes regularly take pages from several seconds to under one.

Page speed services for Shopify and WordPress

Not every site needs a rebuild. On Shopify and WordPress we audit themes, apps and plugins, remove unused code, optimise images and defer third-party scripts, often moving tracking tags to web workers so they no longer block the main thread. These platforms do have architectural ceilings, and some themes cannot reach top mobile scores however well they are tuned. When that ceiling is costing you revenue, we will show you the evidence and outline what a headless Next.js storefront would achieve.

Keeping it fast after launch

Speed tends to erode as new campaigns, tags and features are added. We prevent that with performance budgets in the deployment pipeline: if a change pushes page weight or LCP over agreed limits, it is flagged before release. Real-user monitoring reports Core Web Vitals continuously, and monthly reviews catch slower regressions. Every engagement starts with an audit and a prioritised fix list, followed by implementation, with ongoing monitoring available afterwards as part of our support plans.

FAQ

Website Speed Optimisation: common questions

How long does website speed optimization take?

It depends on your platform, the number of templates and the amount of technical debt. Every engagement starts with a detailed audit that produces a prioritised list of fixes with expected impact, and we agree the implementation plan from there. The largest improvements, such as image and script changes, are usually delivered first.

Why did my Lighthouse score drop suddenly?

The most common cause is new third-party scripts, such as tracking pixels, chat widgets or heatmap tools added through a tag manager. Each one competes for the main thread. Large unoptimised images and new plugins are the next most frequent causes. We trace the regression, then defer, remove or move the offending scripts to web workers.

What is Cumulative Layout Shift and why does Google care?

Cumulative Layout Shift measures how much visible content moves unexpectedly while a page loads, such as a button jumping as a banner appears. It frustrates users and causes accidental taps. Google includes it in Core Web Vitals, aiming for 0.1 or less. We fix it by reserving space for images, ads and embeds, and by loading fonts predictably.

Can you optimise our Shopify or WordPress site?

Yes. We can usually achieve substantial gains by optimising images, removing unused apps or plugins, deferring third-party scripts and improving caching. Some themes have architectural limits that tuning cannot overcome. If those limits are holding back conversion, we will explain the options, including a headless rebuild, with realistic expectations for each.

Will faster page speed improve our Google rankings?

Page experience, including Core Web Vitals, is one of many signals Google uses, so speed alone cannot guarantee higher rankings. It does help: fast pages are crawled efficiently, keep visitors engaged and convert better. Website speed optimization works best alongside strong content and technical SEO, which our SEO team can also support.
