Questions worth answering

Risky assumptions become realistic tasks and success criteria; a pilot session checks the script.

"Can users find the shipping cost before paying?"
02 · Observe

What they do, not what they say

Participants think aloud while we record screens, hesitations, errors and time on task.

Patterns across sessions are ranked by impact and frequency, each with a clip and a proposed fix.

Proof the fix works

Fixes are prototyped and retested with new participants, so you ship evidence rather than hope.

In depth

User testing that turns hesitation into clear fixes

Our usability testing services replace debate with evidence. We watch real people attempt real tasks on your prototype or live product, measure where they succeed and where they struggle, and turn what we see into a ranked list of fixes. You get video clips, task metrics and clear recommendations, rather than another round of opinions.

Moderated and unmoderated user testing

In moderated testing, a researcher guides each participant through tasks in real time, asking follow-up questions when they hesitate or take an unexpected path. It is ideal for complex products and early prototypes, where the reasons behind behaviour matter most. In unmoderated testing, participants complete tasks in their own time while software records their screen and voice. It is faster to run at scale and useful for comparing design options or benchmarking a flow. We usually combine the two, using moderated sessions to understand problems and unmoderated studies to confirm that fixes work for a wider group.

How many users you need to test

Research by the Nielsen Norman Group found that testing with five users uncovers around 85 percent of usability problems in a given flow. Beyond that point, each additional participant mostly confirms issues already found. We therefore recommend five to eight participants per user archetype, then a retest after changes, rather than one large study. This iterative approach is quicker, more affordable and finds more problems overall. Where you need statistically reliable comparisons, such as choosing between two designs for a high-traffic page, we add larger unmoderated studies or recommend an A/B test.

From UX research findings to shipped fixes

A report nobody acts on is wasted effort, so we design ours for action. Every issue is ranked by severity and frequency, illustrated with a short video clip and paired with a recommended fix. High-severity problems are prototyped and retested straight away, so you know the change works before engineering time is committed. Findings can be pushed directly into Jira or Linear as tickets with acceptance criteria. For live products, we connect session findings with heatmaps and analytics from tools such as Hotjar and Mixpanel, showing both what users do and how often it happens.

FAQ

Usability Testing: common questions

How many users do we need for usability testing?

Research from the Nielsen Norman Group shows that five users typically uncover around 85 percent of usability issues in a flow. We usually recommend five to eight participants per user archetype, followed by a retest after fixes. That reaches the point of diminishing returns quickly while keeping studies fast and affordable.

What is the difference between moderated and unmoderated user testing?

Moderated testing has a researcher guiding each participant in real time and asking why they made each choice. Unmoderated testing lets participants complete tasks alone while their screen and voice are recorded. Moderated sessions give deeper insight; unmoderated studies are faster at scale. We choose the mix that suits your product and question.

When is the best time to run usability testing?

Ideally at every stage. We test low-fidelity wireframes to validate structure, high-fidelity prototypes to validate clarity and the live product to validate real-world performance. The earlier a problem is found, the cheaper it is to fix, so testing works best as a regular cycle rather than a single event before launch.

Why do we need user testing if we have an experienced design team?

Experienced designers know your product too well to see it as a newcomer does. Testing shows what real users actually do, which often differs from what they say and from what the team expects. It turns design debates into evidence, protects revenue on critical flows and gives stakeholders confidence that changes are worth building.

What do our usability testing services reports include?

You receive a concise report with task success rates, time on task and error counts, a list of issues ranked by severity, short video clips for each finding and recommended fixes. We present the results in a working session with your team and can create tickets in Jira or Linear so changes move straight into delivery.
